I am going to double check this out today. Use Exiftool to read all the Exif tags and their value this great program will dump all of them. It is a rare viewer or processing program that displays all of them. That's right, there are several dates in every camera JPG and raw file I've seen.

I also prefix my files with the original date shot (along with camera brand and model) copied from the EXIF, but that process doesn't remove the date from the EXIF. I am thinking I want to find a program / way to take that DATE+TIME at the beginning of the filename and put that back into the EXIF of the JPG. That way, if I touched it with an editing program and the program messed up the EXIF, at least the filename would still have the correct DATE+TIME.īut now that I am getting closer to getting caught up and cleaned up. The one thing I noticed is that when I took the shots, most of the years I took the time to have a program pull out the DATE+TIME from the EXIF of the JPG file and put that at the front of the filename. I am cleaning up my personal digital family photo album and I am actually starting to make some progress.

I am looking for a program that could read the filename of my JPG files, extract the DATE+TIME that is encoded into the filename and then inject that back into the EXIF of the JPG file.
